The Story Behind SignWay
SignWay was founded on a single conviction: a commercial sign project should make a business stronger, and it should be handled by people who treat the outcome like their own name is on it. For us, that is not a figure of speech. SignWay is a family business, and the family name really is behind every project we deliver. The brand says it plainly. Signs the right way.
A Family Business
SignWay operates as a brand of Hunsinger Family Companies LLC, the family holding company founded by Richard E. Hunsinger. SignWay is the name on the building and the trucks, but the company behind it is a family that has staked its name on doing commercial sign work the right way.
That changes how we work. A family business does not get to hide behind a logo or a call center. When we make a commitment, the people who answer for it share a last name and a reputation they intend to carry for decades. The next generation is already in the business, which means we are not building for the next quarter. We are building something we hand down.
For our customers, the family-business difference is simple. You deal with owners, not departments. Decisions get made by people who actually care how the project turns out. And the relationship does not end when the invoice is paid, because in a family business, your reputation is the only marketing that matters.
The Philosophy: A Japanese Concept Called Do
Do, written 道, is a Japanese concept that means "the way," or path. It runs through many of Japan's traditional disciplines, from the martial arts to calligraphy to the tea ceremony, and it carries the same meaning in each: mastery is not a destination you arrive at, but a path you commit to for life. The discipline of choosing craft over haste, standards over convenience, and quality over compromise is what defines a practitioner over a lifetime of pursuit.
The Hunsinger family built SignWay on that idea. Do shapes the character of the company. A never-ending pursuit of perfection. One standard of excellence applied to every project, every customer, every installation, and every interaction with employees and partners. The philosophy guides how we work internally. The result is visible in every sign we deliver.
Why Rhode Island Needs a Better Sign Partner
Most Rhode Island commercial sign buyers have lived through the same broken pattern. Slow quotes that take three weeks. Permit surprises nobody warned them about. Installers who scratch the building and disappear. Vendors who pass blame to installers, who pass blame to landlords, who pass blame back to the buyer. The buyer ends up coordinating the project they hired the sign company to coordinate.
SignWay was built to end that cycle. We take full ownership of the experience. The same team that scopes the project manages the design, pulls the permits, oversees production, installs the signs, and follows up after the install. One partner. One point of contact. One family standing behind the result. The complexity is our job, not yours.
We Are a Partner, Not a Print Shop
We are a commercial sign partner, not a print shop and not just a fabricator. Our customers are property managers running multi-tenant buildings, developers moving projects through entitlement and construction, retailers and restaurants rolling out branded storefronts, healthcare practices building ADA-compliant facility programs, industrial operators at Quonset and similar properties, and the architects and designers who specify sign work on behalf of their clients.
Those buyers do not call us for a product. They call us to solve a problem and to know it is handled. The market we serve runs on documentation, accountability, and predictability. The partner that delivers on those three things wins the long-term relationship. The one that does not gets replaced after the first project.
What We Believe
A sign is not a decoration. It is a capital investment that has to perform every day for fifteen to thirty years, and it has a business job to do: get the company seen, get it found, and bring customers in. The work needs to be right. The mounting needs to last. The illumination needs to keep working after dark. The permits need to clear on first submission. The buyer needs to know what they are getting and when.
We also believe a family business has an obligation a faceless vendor does not. We treat employees, business partners, and customers as part of the same standard the family holds itself to. Do is not something we apply only to the signs. It applies to how we run the company, how we respond to a customer call, how we handle a problem on an active project, and how we deliver on every commitment we make. Going beyond what is required is the baseline, not the exception, because the name on the door is also the name on the line.
